Dearkristina
Pyrrhic victory of raging vegetarianism.

To explain why I’m not a vegetarian. The other day at work one of my vegetarian colleagues tilted on me when we were discussing different Swedish export goods with a co-worker. I mentioned that I wouldn’t ever buy a Volvo because I’d appreciate to have an Eco-friendlier car, if having a car at all. I didn’t get the chance to mention any other reason not to buy a Volvo, before the vegetarian coworker (a woman I formerly have seen as a nice and respectful person looking up to) in anger interrupted to say:

“Stop eating meat then. You cannot be an environmentalist and eat meat.”

This while I’m actually eating meat during my lunch break. (Who said I was an environmentalist in the first place anyway?) I was clearly offended by her act, but then tried to clarify that I wasn’t after discussing diet, by saying that if I’d choose between skipping a car or meat I would easily choose to skip using a car. The vegetarian kept on arguing diet, claiming that the meat industry is much worse (which is true) supposedly meaning that if you don’t like hair, then shave your head bald. Nothing less counts.

I think she is wrong and that it all counts.

Conclusion is that despite all my fantastic vegetarian friends and other coworkers, and the fact that what my angry colleague argued surely is true, it’s this rude kind of behavior that my entire life have convinced me not to become vegetarian. It seriously scares me to become a person waiting to explode in someones face with rage to make my point. Pointing fingers is not the way to convince anyone to change their way of living.
